The Lone Canary is a Folk/Americana duo out of Rockford, Illinois built on a friendship that goes back to high school. Jesse Fox and Heather Camacho have been making music together since before either of them knew exactly what they were building. By 2014 they made it official, and The Lone Canary became one of the most compelling acoustic acts in the Midwest.
Their sound is spare and deliberate. Acoustic guitar, fiddle, foot percussion, and two voices that fit together in a way that cannot be rushed or manufactured. Americana UK called their work "absorbing and beautiful songcraft." A&R Factory described it as "hypnotically suspenseful Americana folk." Their harmonies draw comparisons to The Civil Wars, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Watchhouse, and Jason Isbell.
They have shared stages with Three Dog Night, Over the Rhine, Pieta Brown, and Lilly Hiatt, and performed at Mile of Music and Knoxville's Blue Plate Special. Their 2025 album Dime Store Horses, mastered by GRAMMY-winner David Donnelly, earned a perfect five-out-of-five rating as one of the year's finest Americana records.
Jason sits down with Jesse and Heather for a conversation about the history of the duo, how a friendship forged in high school Rockford became one of the Midwest's most respected independent Americana acts, how they write together, and what brought them to the CDF studio. An intimate look at what makes a long-term musical partnership work.
